ATLM Award!

Erste Stiftung invites Central or Eastern European non-proft organisations and their international partners to propose project proposals. Deadline for a short concept note is January 5th. Marcia J. Scherer PhD MPH

Director of Institute for Matching Person and Technology, Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Rochester Medical Center

Dr. Scherer is author of the book, "Living in the State of Stuck: How Assistive Technology Impacts the Lives of People with Disabilities," and the new edited volume published by the American Psychological Association titled “Assistive Technology: Matching Device and Consumer for Successful Rehabilitation“. She is also Editor of the journal Disability and Rehabilitation: Assistive Technology, an official journal of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM). Dr. Scherer also co-edited the books, “Evaluating, Selecting and Using Appropriate Assistive Technology and Psychological Assessment in Medical Rehabilitation“. She is on the editorial boards of the journal “Disability and Rehabilitation“ and RESNA’s journal, “Assistive Technology”. She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association in Rehabilitation Psychology as well as in Applied Experimental and Engineering Psychology. In addition to directing the Institute for Matching Person & Technology, Dr. Scherer is Senior Research Associate, International Center for Hearing and Speech Research (a joint program of the University of Rochester and National Technical Institute for the Deaf/Rochester Institute of Technology) and is Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University of Rochester Medical Center.

Coordinator of EHO Resource Centre for People with Disabilities, Serbia

The Resource Centre is a project of the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organisation (EHO). The basic activities of the Centre, based on the social model of disability, include the improvement of the economic, legal and social position of people with physical and learning disabilities. They also promote employment of people with disabilities and lobby and advocate for their interests. Dr. Nikos Katevas

AT expert, Consultant with EU institutions, Founder of Ideasis Ltd, Greece

Dr. Nikos Katevas is a computer engineer who has done research on Intelligent Autonomous Mobile Robots. He is the founder of IDEASIS Ltd, Halkida, Greece, an SME specialised in ICT technologies for the disabled and the elderly. In 2003, Dr.Katevas has been elected as professor in the Automation Department, of Technological Educational Institute of Halkida, Greece. Dr. Katevas is acting as an expert for the EC under the ICT and other programmes. He has published 46 papers in international journals and conferences and he is the editor of a book on service robotics. IDEASIS Ltd was established in 1999 with the vision of providing systems and services that would assist humans in daily life activities. IDEASIS is an enterprise that delivers high technology systems and services to the local and EU market. IDEASIS recognizes the special needs that the disabled and elderly face in their daily life. The company is specialized in the special needs sector offering a broad range of products, services and customized solutions.


Václav Krása

Chairman of the Czech National Council of the Disabled, Czech Republic

Václav Krása has been the chairman of the National Council of the disabled in the Czech Republic since 2002. Born on November 24th 1951 in Beneśov, a little town near Prague. After graduation at the Economic Middle School he worked as an accountant in a home for the elderly. In the years 1988 - 1992 he was a director of that home. Since 1992 he had served as a member of the Czech Parliament representing the Civic Democratic Party (till 1998), later on the Union of Freedom as its Vice-Chairman (until 2002). In 2006 he established a new political party "Movement for better Ŕepy"(Ŕepy is a district of Prague) and became its Chairman. His creed is: "When somebody kicks you out through the door, come back through the window".

Institut Integriert Studieren, University of Linz, Austria

The Institute of Integrated Studies in Linz, Austria, works on the one hand on integrating people with disabilities into the educational system and on the other hand on helping them accessing the labour market and working in it successfully. For Prof. Miesenberger it is important that assistive technologies help with integrating in the labour market. Prof. Miesenberger has vast experience in the field of information systems and people with disabilities. One foremost goal is that people with disabilities have access to education and are integrated in the university education system.


Laila Onu

Executive Director, Pentru Voi Foundation, Romania

The Pentru Voi Foundation is a non-governmental organization which provides community-based services in partnership with the Timisoara Municipality and advocates for the rights of persons with intellectual disabilities. Pentru Voi promotes a new social policy based on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
